Why is the atomic bomb important enough to win an oscar? The technology used for the creation of the atomic bomb was later used to develop other nuclear weapons which instigated the scenarios leading to the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Russia and now has inventory of a large enough number to annihilate Earth 600 times over.
Significance of the atomic bombAtomic bombs had a power source that was made of a highly combustible element such as Uranium or Plutonium. A single atomic bomb being dropped had the destructive force to kill thousands of people in the blast from impact and had the after effects of radiation which ended up killing thousands more. Infact in some cases such as Nagasaki, Japan, only about 40,000 people were killed by the atomic bomb named Fat Man. However, over 100,000 more people died from the effects of radiation in the following month. An atomic bomb could do extreme damage in the circular area surrounding the area of impact for about 4.4 square miles. The Manhatten Project involved in the testing behind the creation of the atomic bomb was one of the most secret wartime projects in history.
